We created The U to be a space where people who are traditionally underserved and under represented could come and get the tools and resources needed for their business.

Empowering the urban ecosystem and adding to the advancement of people of color is our goal.
It was important for us to be intentional about our curriculum, our space, our location and the business we serve.

After years of being apart of the mid-west business scene, a space where you can learn in a way every day people can digest is needed.

Creating a Collaborative Small Business Ecosystem for Main Street Businesses

The Columbus Small Business Agenda is a report launched by Mayor Andrew J. Ginther and enacted by the Next Street team to identify key gaps that are creating roadblocks to Entrepreneurship for People of Color and Women.

The report goes into great detail about the data collected and provides an outline to action based on four (4) key strategies to fill those gaps. Download the Agenda for more information.

Action on the Agenda

THE U is Shifting to Action through deliberate engagement in the community.

We are where the rubber meets the road. As an Entrepreneur Support Organization (ESO) we are delivering on expanding awareness of resources, building the capacity of the ecosystem stakeholders, improving services and capital as well as fostering connectivity between anchor businesses and community business. Below we've highlighted some of those efforts.

Resource Awareness

We're proactively engaging with Start-up and Small Business ecosystems in the community and nationally. We're curating these resources and providing relative information for our Entrepreneurs.

Accelerator Fund

Often times having the education and resources alone is not enough. We're providing a 360 degree solution by developing a fund to enable scale.

Community Connection

We're located in an opportunity center in the heart of the Northcentral, Olde Leonard, Sheppard neighborhood.
This creates ease of access for community member.

Post Launch Engagement

Our workshops focus on the components outside the Entrepreneurs core competency to strengthen and expand their reach.
